Jasc After Shot
If you own a digital camera, you need this program!

I've searched for years to find a program that could make viewing and cataloging my digital images. Many of the programs had Album Making capabilities, but the effort involved in dragging and dropping individual photos were a chore. Also renaming the individual photos was also a challenge since each photo had to have a unique name.

If you has twenty pictures you took in Disney World, and you wanted to sequentially number them as , you had to rename the second snapshot Orlando Vacation June 2001 001. This was a laborious job. With Aftershot you name a single photo and batch name the others with automatic sequential numbers.

Note the random names on the left. With a couple of clicks, I changed the names of all snapshots and numbered them sequentially. Most digital cameras have cryptic numbers. The software that came with my camera allowed me to scan the photos and rename them, one at a time.

Batch mode can also be used to resize, rotate, color correct and change file formats for any number of photos you want to process. No other program I've ever seen can do this!

Color correction is impressive and virtually automatic.

The Albums feature of After Shot organizes related photos into separate photo albums. I love this feature. Each album can then be burned onto a CD and sent or given to someone who can view the pictures on their computer.

The photos above show the original photo I took on the left. After one click on the quick fix feature of After Shot, the photo on the right was adjusted and improved considerably. In addition to auto fixing the shot, you can manually adjust the colors yourself. I prefer the auto fix which usually delivers outstanding results.

The shot you see above is the actual screen that displays an album I created called Dave. The albums literally construct themselves. I had already separated my photos in separate files prior to owing After Shot.

Red eye removal makes it possible for you to remove the red eye associated with flash photography. Aftershot automates the process. If you want to go a step further, you can add a highlight to the eyes such as the one that was added to the shot on the right.

Many bundled programs have red eye removal but none as good as the one found in After Shot.

If you don't have a digital camera, I would recommend you get one. Mine is capable of taking 400 photos on a tiny compact flash dish the size of an after dinner mint. No processing or film charges! I simply select the photos I want to convert to paper photos, send them to an on-line processor and within a couple of days the prints arrive in the mail.

After  my son's first birthday photos were lost in the mail, I NEVER mailed my film to a processor again. I brought the film to a local processor and never suffered lost film again. Of course that pre-dated one hour photo finishers. I hardly ever use film based camera anymore. I can view my photos the same day I take them. I usually send them to myself via e-mail at a local Computer Cafe or a library that has computer capabilities.
