Kensington Expert Mouse
Simply the Best Desktop Pointing Device!
I have tried literally dozens of different pointing devices for use with my desktop computer. Starting with an optical mouse that needed a metallic mouse pad, to something that looked like a pen with a wire attached, they have run the gamut from functional to ridiculous.
Several years ago, I saw an ad for a Kensington Expert Mouse in a computer magazine. It looked ideal for me as at that time my desk was rather small and a conventional mouse was not convenient on my cramped desktop. From that time on I was hooked on Kensington Pointing Devices and I wouldn't even consider trying another manufacturer's product. For one thing it's the outstanding quality and the "Ferrari Feel" of the Expert Mouse that keeps me as a dedicated user, for another, the Expert Mouse has more than nine lives.
My Expert Mouse is more than five years old. I started with the original version which was purloined by my college bound son. I still am using version 2.0 which is a two button version.
The current version, version 5.0 is a four
button mouse that does just about everything you can imagine and more!
Each of the four buttons can easily be programmed by using the MouseWorks Software included with the Expert Mouse. Want to open files with a single click? Just program one of your buttons to convert a single click into a double click.
Program another key to insert a block of text, save and print a file with a single click. Scrolling and highlighting is a snap.
One of the features I really appreciate is the ergonomic shape of the Expert Mouse. I can use it for hours without any fatigue. The ball is large compared to the tiny ones the competition offers.
Movement is smooth and accurate. If you haven't used a trackball yet, you should buy the Expert Mouse.
My chief gripe against makers of Trackballs as well as mice, is that I am left handed. Kensington has designed their primary products for us lefties as well.
I have gone through three or so trackballs at work. The Kensington I use at home is still going strong. In fact my home machine gets more of a workout than my office machine. My Kensington's (I have 3) live on while the others die.
The Kensington is available for Macs as well as PC's.
The street price is around $99.00 and well worth the investment. If your desk space is limited you will love the Expert Mouse.
