The tight integration of the five major modules makes Office 2002 the only product in its class with the broadest range of functionality, yet it is a product that is amazingly easy to use.

This new and exciting version introduces a new Microsoft innovation called "Smart Tags." A Smart Tag recognizes a certain word you type and offers a pop up menu that allows you to take other actions. 

On the left you see  a section from a new Word 2002 document. I typed in the date and immediately the program recognized the date format and "Smart Tagged" the date. Note the faint dotted line under the date. This indicates that a smart tag has been created. If I click on schedule a meeting or Show My

Calendar, Microsoft Outlook Opens to allow me to enter the date as an event or scheduled activity right in my calendar. If you choose not to use the smart, you simply ignore it or remove the tag by clicking on the menu item. I love this feature! Smart tags will appear where they are commonly used.

I forget the exact statistic, but I seem to recall that it takes about five dollars of training for every dollar spent on software. Office suite competitors do exist but neither IBM's "Lotus SmartSuite" or Corel's "Word Perfect Suite" are serious competition for Microsoft. I personally do not know anyone who uses either product.
