![]() Norton 360 At Last!---TOTAL SECURITY FOR YOUR COMPUTER |
For more than two decades, I have depended on Symantec's Norton Products to protect me from viruses, check my system integrity, and to warn me of a possible impending hard drive failure, or loss of data due to bad sectors on my hard drive.
Through the years it performed flawlessly. Then suddenly, a new menace loomed on the horizon, Viruses, Worms, and Trojan Horses OH MY!
Naturally Symantec was there to deal with this horrific threat to computer users everywhere. Norton Anti Virus was there like St. George, to take on the dragons of data destruction.
Those of us familiar with the early Norton Products embraced Anti-Virus as the solution to this rapidly expanding universe of Conan the Barbarian data destroyers. Virus after virus appeared on the scene almost daily. Norton updated the product equally as fast as new threats arose.
I would estimate that in my computing years (now approaching 23, I have had almost a hundred attempts by viruses to penetrate my computer. Each and every attempt was thwarted successfully and I attribute this to the software gurus hard at work in the Symantec Virus Lab developing protection against the thousands of virus's that have been developed and circulated around the globe.
Norton introduced a neat application called "Live Update" which when used daily, downloaded the newest protection to my Norton Anti-Virus program. The utility was later automated so that Live Update went to the Symantec Site and got the updates for you.
Just when I thought my computer was safe....along comes the dreaded Spam era, followed quickly by stealth viruses and other ugly things like Spyware, Pfishing, Pfarming, Identity Theft, etc. (Will it ever end?)
Of course Norton rose to the occasion and designed the features to combat any and all new threats.
Norton was also used by my employer (a fortune 500 company) to protect it's computer network. I was protected at home and at work. With Norton on my laptop, I was protected while traveling on business and for pleasure.
I have depended on Norton products and they have never let me down.
I have been reviewing Norton Products for more than 20 years starting in the DOS era of the 80's to the Vista Era of today. Recently, Norton Introduced Norton 360. Aptly named because it surrounds you with a circle of safety and assures that you are being protected in every possible direction, 24/7. Symantec priced this wonderful product reasonably and allows you to install it on three PC's per household. That's a huge savings when other products require three purchases to protect each individual machine.

The screen shot on the left is the heart of Norton 360, or the command console. Here you see the green checks indicating that the computer I am using is protected against the major threats to my machine and to my financial transactions on this computer. Gives me a warm fuzzy feeling to see those green checkmarks. If a red indicator shows up I merely click on the white circle and proceed to identify and fix the problem. |
An excellent way to protect your data against loss is to purchase an external hard drive larger than the one you got with your computer and store your backups there. In addition, Norton offers 2BG of on line storage space for backing up important data such as photos. Additional space can be purchased as needed.
Alas, it is no longer the installation of anti-Virus software that gives your peace of mind. The total protection concept that is designed into Norton 360 is the only way to go.
If you use your laptop in a WiFi environment I would not even considering doing so without Norton 360 on the job. Those of you who use WiFi as a matter of course know that other users in the same location can tap into your machine if it is not protected. Yes, You can tap into theirs as well.
The protection of Norton 360 will make using WiFi networks easy and safe. One tip, protect yourself by requiring a password for access to your computer. It means a sign on for you when you start up, but it will be worth the effort.
The main features of the program offer.....
Not every possible cause of computer failure can be prevented. Let's face it, hard drives fail....not too often but the do fail. Other components failing, power surges and natural disasters sometimes cannot be averted. THAT IS WHY BACKING UP YOUR COMPUTER ON A REGULAR BASIS IS A MUST.
Sooner or later, your computer will fail. Norton will be right there to help you restore your data but you have to participate in helping to avert the data loss by making sure your computer is backed up regularly. Fortunately, the back up module in Norton 360 can be set to perform a backup while you sleep or for periods of computer inactivity.
The cost of this MUST HAVE program is a modest $79.99 for up to three computers. Additional on line storage is $49.99 for 5GB and $79.99 for 25GB. If you purchase directly from Symantec, the cost of the program drops to $69.99!
