Simply The Best Backup System..... Ever!!! |
Sooner or later your hard drive will die......
OR....Your files will become corrupted and you will lose all or part of your data.
Many people have an unorthodox belief that their computer like their TVs will go on forever.
NOT TRUE!
My kids are grown, and all the photos I took of them are in old fashioned photo albums. The more recent digitals reside on my computer...period!
In order to preserve those digital moments I am somewhat a fanatic about backing up my computer and you should be also. There is no better and easier way to do this than by purchasing a rebit backup system that completely automates the backing up of your computer almost as easily as making toast. Plug in the toaster, drop in the bread, push the control arm down and in a few minutes.....You have toast.
| When rebit is started you will see this message...... rebit commences with the backup automatically. Every time you add, change or delete a file rebit makes the change on the backup set on the rebit. |

Backing up your computer is just as easy as that. I leave my rebit on all the time. I shut it off for a few days as a test, turned it on and rebit resumed backing up my data.
Before rebit you had to be computer savvy in order to accomplish reliable backups. rebit Rules!
The rebit system comes in two configurations and the software is also available to use with your own hard drive. I will be reviewing that soon.
![]() The desktop version is slightly larger than the portable version an comes in a 500GB size for $189.95 and a 1 TB version for $239.95. (buy the larger version) |
![]() The portable version slightly smaller than a paperback book It comes in both a 160GB version which is $149.95 and the 320 GB unit which is $169.99. (Buy the larger version) |
If your primary work is done on a single computer (Your stationary desktop machine) buy the any of the desktop models.
If you are on the go.....The portable model is the choice for you. The 320GB multi-PC portable offers the advantage of being able to backup up to six computers. All of the desktop models allows you to backup a single computer or you can purchase the multi-PC version and back up to six computers.
However with a transfer cable......you can transfer the data easily from your rebit to your road warrior if the data on it is the same as what is stored on your desktop.....but that's a whole other review which I will cover in my review of transfer cables and moving computer data from one computer to another.
You can do this with any rebit unit.
I've been computing for almost 25 years now. I've experienced data loss in spite of the fact that I have, from the very beginning backed up my data. In fact I made redundant backup copies of my data first on to floppy disks and later onto CD's when that technology appeared on the scene.
Later on I backed up to devices such as tape drives and finally onto a second internal hard drive reserved for that purpose. I then purchased my new computers with two hard drives because this was the best way, I believed to secure my data.......... WRONG!
It was easier, but it required that I remember to make regular backups. New software promised to make this process AUTOMATIC. Yes it scheduled unattended backups but trust me, you still had to be there.
Hard drives grew from 20 Megabytes to 100 then to 500 and then to Terabytes.
Enter the digital camera era and I added hundreds of photos to the hard drive of my computer. My backup process now took hours.
Why, you ask if the software supposedly automated the process?
Because the software needed to have you answer questions as to whether to overlook a file it could not backup. So I would go to the computer the next morning after commencing the backup process late in the evening to find that the machine had stopped about a tenth of the way through.
This was frustrating.
On top of that, my backups were compressed by the program and could only be decompressed by the same program if I needed to accomplish a restore.
In my case my primary hard drive bit the dust. I installed a new drive and attempted to restore the data from my second internal hard drive but the program told me my backup data was corrupted and could not be restored.
Following that misadventure I never trusted data encryption programs again and made laborious uncompressed backups by dragging and dropping all the files I wanted to back up on to my secondary hard drive
This happened in spite of my using nationally recognized software products which were not cheap and were not reliable.
I have a 500 GB main hard drive on my computer and I use most of it. My baseline data ( not including the applications that created it about 30GB, some of it dating back to the very beginnings of the computer era which for me was in the early 80's but stuff I definitely wanted to keep such as my old reviews.
The manual way took hours, but it never failed me.
Enter rebit.......
I read about the re but system which consists of an external hard drive or a software package using you own external drive. I wanted to review this product and I was blown away when I began to use it.
The instructions told me to plug it into a USB port, power it up and the rebit drive would do the rest. I did just that and the drive began to backup my entire C drive without having to install any drivers or external software.
I left the computer at 7:00 PM and came back to check on it a little after 1:00 AM. It completed the process flawlessly. Not only did it back up my c drive but also the D partition that contained the restore files that HP had installed on the drive in case it needed to restore the operating system.
Being the skeptic I am, I used my computer to look into the files on the rebit drive. I expected that they would be there in some compressed format. Lo and behold the unit backed the data in an uncompressed format and I could read my documents directly from the rebit dive.
Wow! This is THE PRODUCT you must have to insure a reliable backup of your valuable data. I decided to take a few data files from the rebit drive and drag and drop it onto a plain vanilla 60GB portable hard drive I had next to the rebit.
I took the files containing the documents I have stored on my computer in Microsoft Word as well as the photos I had backup on the rebit.
I opened them on my programs and they were there and immediately accessible. I was indeed blown away. I could easily backup the rebit on a portable drive.
You probably think I am overdoing it, but if you ever lost data you would understand why. I use my removable drive to move the data from my computer to a location outside my home.
The reasons for this are simple.....Fire or theft.
In today's world these events are unfortunately real threats. The computer is a real target for many thieves because of the access it gives to information they could use to aid them in stealing your identity.
I password protect everything to try to prevent this from happening.
You are probably thinking I am paranoid about data loss and you are right. However my paranoia has a basis in the fact that I experienced both a burglary and a fire in the pre-computer era so I know whereof I speak.
My kids are grown, and all the photos I took of them are in old fashioned photo albums. The rest of my digital photos reside on my computer.
If you value your data (or if you are the least bit paranoid about your files like I am) rebit is a must have addition to every computer user.
